Spicy Turkey Chili

This chili is so tasty it will leave you wondering if you’ll ever use beef again. It’s low in fat and high in fiber with three different types of beans. This recipe is definitely for the health nut. TIP: For a family of four, a 5-quart crock pot is perfect.

Spicy Turkey Chili Recipe Ingredients

1lb smoked turkey sausage, cut into cubes
1 can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
1 can great northern beans, rinsed and drained
1 can black beans, rinsed and drained
1 ½ cups frozen corn
1 ½ cups salsa
1 large green pepper, chopped
1 large onion, chopped
½ to 1 cup water
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 tsp. ground cumin

Spicy Turkey Chili Recipe Directions

In a 5-qt slow cooker, combine all ingredients. Cover and cook on low 5-6 hours or until the meat is tender. Stir before serving. Serves 6

This recipe is delicious and perfect for those cold winter days and nights. Plus, this recipe is meant for there to be leftovers, so freeze or refrigerate what’s left for another night. TIP: Shredded cheddar cheese, chopped red onion, sour cream for optional garnish.

Turkey Chili Recipe Ingredients

2 cups chopped onion
4 garlic cloves, chopped fine
1 cup chopped green pepper
1/4 cup olive oil
2 cans stewed tomatoes, crushed
2 cans kidney beans, drained
2 Tbsp tomato paste
3/4 cup chicken or turkey stock
1 Tbsp ground cumin
1 Tbsp dried hot red pepper flakes
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 Tbsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
4 cups of shredded, cooked turkey meat

Turkey Chili Crockpot Recipe Directions

In a large, thick-bottom crock pot cook the onion and green pepper over medium high heat, stirring, until golden for about 5 minutes. Add the garlic, chili powder, cumin, and red pepper flakes and cook, stirring, for a minute more. Add tomatoes, tomato paste, stock, beans, oregano, salt, pepper, and cooked turkey meat. Bring mixture to a simmer and reduce heat to low. Simmer uncovered for an hour. Salt to taste. Add 1 to 3 teaspoons of sugar to take the edge of the acidity of the tomatoes if desired. Serves up to 8
